Giving it a shot!

I've hemmed and hawed about starting a blog about teaching for two years.  I am finally trying to give it a go.
Completing the Seesaw Ambassador training gave me a push to put myself out there and give it a shot. I was inspired by two factors: in participating in this PD about pushing my students to be more reflective bloggers, and in collaborating teachers on the Seesaw Facebook page.  Collaborating with others in how we can improve our reflection process using Seesaw made me excited to get back into the classroom, even though summer vacation started 3 weeks ago.

When I want new ideas on how I can change my teaching practice or tackle a problem in the classroom, I often find myself reading other teachers blogs. So here I go. I have a few goals to get myself started.

Over the summer:
Reflect on incorporating tech training and setting goals for implementation
Reflecting on Exhibition and redesigning goals for next year

During the school year:
Weekly reflections on skills I am teaching to prepare my students for exhibition.

A bit about me: I have taught for 11 years. My first license is in teaching ESL K-12 from Hamline University. I taught ESL for 5 years grades 3-12. I was co-teaching ESL math in 3 & 4 grades when I discovered my passion for elementary classroom teaching.  I went to the University of St. Thomas and got my K-6 elementary education license.  We then moved to Korea where I taught EFL to Kinder, 5th & 6th graders for two years at Mokpo East Elementary. I then made the move to teaching in international schools. First at BLIS, in Anakra, Turkey, where I co-taught 3rd grade. I had two excellent teaching partners, one each year. I learned a lot about the Turkish standards, Turkish educational norms, and began to learn about the PYP.  Now I am teaching in Wroclaw, Poland. It is a small IB school in a small, but diverse city. I taught 4th grade my first year and then moved with my students to 5th grade (the exhibition.) This will be my second year teaching exhibition and I am very excited to tweak it.
